Historic District Commission

Per Connecticut General Statutes, duties of the HDC include: making periodic reports to the legislative body; providing information to property owners and others involving the preservation of any existing historic districts; cooperate with other regulatory agencies and civic organizations and groups interested in historic preservation; comment on all applications for zoning variances and special exceptions where they affect historic districts; render advice on sidewalk construction and repair, tree planting, street improvements and the erection or alteration of public buildings not otherwise under its control where they affect historic districts; furnish information and assistance in connection with any capital improvement program involving historic districts; and consult with groups of experts. The Historic District Commission is also responsible for reviewing applications for new structures, renovations to or demolition of existing buildings or structures that may affect or be located in the Historic District. Upon satisfactory review, a Certificate of Appropriateness is issued.

The Historic District Commission regularly meets on the third Thursday in January, February, March, April, May, June, September and October in Room 102 located in the Town Hall.

The commission is comprised of five regular members and three alternate members. Regular members serve five-year terms and alternate members serve three-year terms. All members are appointed by the Town Council.
